A Stroll down the Alameda and around the San Jose Municipal Rose Garden

My little corner of San Jose is filled with interesting sights. Around the corner from my condo, on the Alameda, is a local landmark: Babe's Muffler. Babe has been there seemingly forever, across the street my the local espresso place, Hannah Coffee and Sweets.

Another local landmark is Schurra's Candy shop, which has been doing business for about 100 years.

The local used book shop has two resident cats, and is a popular fixture on the Alameda.

My favorite Burrito spot - Freebirds World Burrito. They have an app that lets you order ahead for pickup. It's a very popular with locals.

As I walk through the Shasta-Hanchett neighborhood, I enjoy the unique and charming houses, each with it's own personality.

All of the electric boxes in the area have some sort of art work - I liked this one, above.

The San Jose Municipal Rose Garden is internationally renowned; locals like to stroll there to enjoy the sights and smells of prize-winning roses.

The Rose Garden has several gated entries - I love this wisteria-covered walkway.

The garden is 5.5 acres in size, and was once a prune orchard.  The land  was bought by San Jose in 1927 and is now exclusively devoted to roses. It features more than 3,500 shrubs representing 189 rose varieties. These Roses are named after Dick Clark (American Bandstand).

In the center of the garden is a lovely water feature, complete with a family of ducks.

These are Celebrity Hybrid Tea Roses - they smell as wonderful as they look.

This rose is called Miss American Beauty.

On August 12, 2010 the All American Rose Selections organization named it "America's Best Rose Garden", in the first nationwide contest of its kind. The winning garden was selected based on beauty, creativity and community involvement.

These are Iceberg Roses.

It seems like every house in the area planted beautiful flowers - here, an African Lily.

I love to stroll past the lovely Victorian and traditional California Adobe style houses.

Hope you enjoyed the neighborhood tour!

Jamilla
